Help Make MLK Park History Official

For generations, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park has been a gathering place for culture, community, celebration, resilience, and remembrance in Long Beach’s Black community.

Now, Friends of MLK Park is calling on the community to help officially designate MLK Park as an African-American Heritage Park.

This designation would help preserve Black history and Civil Rights history, support cultural and educational programming, bring public art and historical recognition to the park, strengthen community investment and beautification, and create a lasting legacy for future generations.

African-American history deserves a visible and lasting place where it can be taught, experienced, honored, and celebrated.
